About project:
Project Objectives
Aviation schools play a key role in shaping future professionals and promoting sustainable practices within the aviation sector. The AviWaste project is based on the shared belief of project partners that education and training are essential for improving waste management in aviation.
Through this project, we aim to:
- Raise awareness among students and educators about the importance of waste management in aviation
- Integrate sustainability and environmental responsibility into aviation education
- Equip students with practical knowledge and skills to apply waste management procedures in real aviation environments
AviWaste focuses on providing hands-on learning experiences through innovative educational tools, including a Toolkit, an Online Course (MOOC), and immersive VR activities, ensuring that learners gain both theoretical understanding and practical competence.
Project Implementation
The project activities are structured around collaborative development and testing of innovative learning resources. During the project lifetime, partners will implement the following activities:
- Research, selection, and evaluation of relevant educational materials related to waste management in aviation
- Co-creation and piloting of lesson plans and teaching methodologies
- Development and testing of Virtual Reality (VR) interactive activities, including a virtual airport tour focused on waste management procedures
- Creation of an online open-access learning environment (MOOC) where all educational materials will be shared
- Organisation of project meetings, monitoring and evaluation activities, and dissemination actions within each work package
All learning materials will be jointly developed by the project partners, ensuring quality, relevance, and transferability across different aviation education contexts.
Project Results and Expected Outcomes
Through international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and transfer of innovation, the AviWaste project will deliver three concrete and sustainable results:
- R1: Open Educational Resource (OER) Training Course (MOOC)
An online course consisting of nine structured lesson plans, focusing on waste management principles, procedures, and best practices in aviation. - R2: Virtual Airport Tour
A set of nine interactive VR activities, simulating real-life airport environments and demonstrating waste management processes and decision-making in aviation operations. - R3: AviWaste Toolkit
A practical toolkit including descriptions of key environmental threats, waste management techniques in aviation, and examples of best practices, designed for students, teachers, and aviation training institutions.
Impact
AviWaste supports the green transition in aviation education by combining innovation, digitalisation, and sustainability. The project contributes to the development of environmentally responsible aviation professionals and strengthens the capacity of aviation schools to integrate waste management and sustainability topics into their curricula.
